THE GIST

I love carving trees. And I love carving trees into the shape of trees!

For years I neglected small diameter trees and branches and left them in the forest floor to decompose. Now I utilize that material for carving these decorative trees. Bring a piece of nature into your space.

A STUDY IN COLOR AND GRAIN

There is so much natural color variation hidden beneath the bark of trees. If you like wood, a collection of these trees will surely delight you in the texture, grain patterns, and color variations of numerous species. I retain the bark on each piece whenever possible.

These are carved from the tree's full-width. You will be able to count how old the tree is by counting the growth rings. Some 3" diameter ash trees I've turned are nearly 30 years old, while sumac of similar diameter is merely 5 years old. Fascinating!

NUTS AND BOLTS

These trees are a decorative treat to display. Due to the nature of the material, they may crack. Typically the crack does not render the project dysfunctional so just be aware. I finish the items with a mineral oil and beeswax blend.

LOCAL, EXOTIC, AND LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT

The wood I use comes from my backyard or nearby forests in Vermont. I'm not a fan of trucking loads of logs from across the US or from other countries when we have plenty of trees here in VT to utilize. So please enjoy my projects knowing the colors are natural, local, and exotic to people who don't live around here.
